Updated Examples from Java Examples in a Nutshell

If you're a reader of my book Java Examples in a Nutshell, and have previously downloaded the examples from this site, you may want to grab them again from http://www.davidflanagan.com/javaexamples3. A few of the examples require auxilliary properties files, which I forgot to include originally. Thanks to Ronald Tosh for pointing this out. The new .tar.gz and .zip archives contain the required properties files.

David,

Just picked up your new Java Examples book on Friday. I worked slowly thru the first two chapters yesterday. LOVING it!

I'm a web-monkey with a design background. Last year I picked up your JS:DG book. This was my first attempt at learning 'programming' of any kind beyond XML/CSS. I read it 4 or 5 times thru.

Since then I've ready many other JS and PHP books, and developed what I feel is a very solid PHP skillset (enough to get a new job as a PHP/JS developer anyway!).

This year I've refocused on Java... but none of the 'learning' books I've found have measured up to the experience I had with your JS book. Including a couple of O'Reilly books and 'Thinking in Java' by Bruce Eckel.

Your Java in a Nutshell has been helpful, but (by design) it moves so quickly thru the issues without examples, I haven't learned application techniques... only language design. Finally, with your new Examples book, I feel like I'm really learning Java for the first time! So far, the perfect balance.

Thanks for your great work. It's changed my professional life.

Todd
